Ex-school security guard charged with assault on student
MUNHALL (AP) – A fired Western Pennsylvania school security guard is facing charges he shoved a middle school student’s head onto a cafeteria table.
Twenty-eight-year-old Shaun Thomas was charged Wednesday with simple assault and harassment.
Court records indicate that Thomas yelled in a student’s face at Steel Valley Middle School on Monday and pushed the student’s head when an administrator tried to separate the two.
Police say Thomas told them he approached the student because a group was making noise. He says the student swore, grabbed his pant leg and made faces at him. That’s when he says he grabbed the student’s shirt and pulled him to the table.
Thomas was escorted from the school and the district’s contracted security firm fired him.
It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
