State police refiled charges Monday against an Amwell Township woman accused of taking a vehicle owned by her mother’s boyfriend without permission and allowing her 2-year-old daughter to ride in it while not properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Jessica R. Miller, 21, of 1966 S. Main St., was charged by state police the day after the Aug. 30 incident but those charges were dismissed by District Judge Ethan Ward when the trooper did not appear at her Oct. 20 preliminary hearing.

The case was reviewed by the district attorney’s office and the trooper was given permission to refile the charges of endangering the welfare of children, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, improper child restraint systems and several traffic violations.

State police were called by James Hughes to his Laurie Lane home who reported Miller had taken his key fob and vehicle without permission. He also told police she had a suspended license and had taken her 2-year-old daughter with her without putting the girl in a child safety seat. Hughes also told police she sent a text message that she was on her way back to South Main Street.

Police spotted her on South Main and followed her. The girl was reportedly seen by police standing up in the back seat of the vehicle. Miller told police she was meeting a girlfriend who had left her pills in her purse.

Police found a bottle in Miller’s purse containing 133 suspected Clonazepam pills, two syringes and empty stamp bags.

The charges will be sent by summons and a preliminary hearing will be scheduled before Ward.
