Woman in police chase pleads guilty
WAYNESBURG – A woman who led police on a chase in July that started near Carmichaels and ended in Washington County after she rammed two state police cars and pulled a knife on a trooper pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to 2 to 10 years in prison.
Jody Lynn Dulaney, 39, of 338 Piper Ridge Road, Carmichaels, pleaded guilty before Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault with a vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest and numerous traffic citations.
Dulaney also was ordered to pay $3,175 in fines, $4,463 in restitution to state police and perform 175 hours of community service.
Cumberland Township police attempted to stop Dulaney about 2:45 p.m. July 5 on Route 21 after seeing her SUV repeatedly cross into the opposite lane and almost strike construction zone cones.
Dulaney refused to stop after the police officer activated the car’s emergency lights and siren, resulting in the officer requesting assistance from additional police patrols.
On Route 188, state police attempted to use spike strips to stop her vehicle but were unable to get them down before she passed. At one point, a Cumberland officer also was able to pull in front of her, forcing her off the highway.
The officer attempted to block her vehicle. When he got out of his car and approached her SUV, Dulaney drove off and attempted to hit the officer. The officer broke the side window with his baton.
Dulaney took Route 221 to Interstate 79 and headed north. Additional state police vehicles joined the chase.
When state police attempted to block her vehicle on I-79 in Washington County, Dulaney drove into two state cruisers in a bid to escape.
After finally coming to a stop, police said they approached her vehicle and Dulaney pulled out a knife. Police used a Taser to subdue Dulaney and she dropped the knife.
When she attempted to retrieve it, they deployed their Tasers a second time.
Police transported Dulaney to WHS-Greene hospital, where she refused a blood-alcohol test. While being transported to the hospital, Dulaney told police she just wanted the officers to shoot her.
