UPPER ST. CLAIR (AP) – A medical van driver has been ordered to stand trial on charges he stopped to have sex with a 13-year-old patient he was transferring to a Western Pennsylvania mental hospital.

Twenty-six-year-old Scott Weimer, of Altoona, cried at his court appearance Thursday, when he waived a preliminary hearing on charges including statutory sexual assault.

Weimer was driving the girl from a Johnstown hospital to Southwood Hospital in Upper St. Clair when police saw the van parked along a road about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 2.

Police say they found Weimer and the girl putting on their clothes. Police say in a criminal complaint the girl appeared “lethargic” and “unable to care for herself.”

Weimer worked for Med-Van Transport, which has said it was blindsided by the charges.

Weimer didn’t comment and remains jailed.
