Cameron will close for repairs
Cameron Road, which has been sliding downhill from East Beau Street, will close Tuesday for repairs for about a month.
South Strabane Township officials said once its contractor, Redstone Excavating, begins work, a detour will route traffic from East Beau Street to Interstate 70 West to Route 19 to Cameron Road.
The repairs include construction of a retaining wall to hold the roadway in place and the resurfacing of about 200 feet of Cameron Road.
Township supervisors last month awarded a $219,155 contract to Redstone Excavating. The slide along the steep hill was caused by water that seeped under the roadway, causing the road to deteriorate over time. Heavy rains in May and June contributed to the deterioration.
The township road crew has added asphalt to the road as a temporary measure. Trinity East Elementary School is at the bottom of Cameron Road near Route 19.
