MONONGAHELA – The number-one question a promoter of the Monongahela summer concert series gets from ticket buyers involves advice on where they can rent a room the night of the show.

“I get flooded with calls during concerts from people wanting to know where they can eat and saying, ‘Where can we stay?'” said Monongahela businesswoman Claudia Williams, a member of Aquatorium Innovations, the nonprofit group that sponsors the concerts.

The options were limited to hotels more than five miles away in Rostraver Township until Nov. 13, when Williams opened the first guest house for short- and long-term rentals in the small city along the Monongahela River. Traveling bands also have stayed at the Good Ol’ Days guest house in North Belle Vernon, a seven-mile drive from Monongahela.

Williams named the Victorian-style house The Blue Peacock Guest House and had customers bedding down there within a few days.

The two-story frame house at 730 Chess St. has four bedrooms.

Williams said she purchased the house 40 years ago and used it as an apartment rental unit until deciding recently to put it on the market.

“I had some offers to rent-to-own,” she said. “The concert season swayed me into this direction.”

Williams, who also owns C.J. Furniture along Main Street, said people traveling to Monongahela to attend funerals and weddings also need nearby temporary rental units.

The concert season finished its third year, and the organization reported increased ticket sales at the outdoor riverfront stage at Noble J. Dick Aquatorium.

“We will have everything you need except for the food,” said Williams of the guest house.
