Abduction suspect found dead ending Pennsylvania SWAT scene

1 min read

MUNHALL (AP) – A man abducted a woman and kept police at bay for several hours Thursday before officers stormed the suburban Pittsburgh house and found his body, authorities said.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old James Carlini of Hazelwood. Carlini was found just after 1 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his temple and a gun in his hand, according to Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt. A coroner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police said the incident began overnight when a woman texted a friend to report she was being abducted. Police traced the suspect to Munhall, where Allegheny County’s SWAT team and officers blocked off some streets and surrounded a home sometime after 3 a.m.

The woman who was abducted got out of the house safely along with three others as police communicated with the man, who eventually stopped responding. Carlini exchanged gunfire with police and is believed to have been hit before retreating into the house, according to Moffatt.
