A Chartiers Township man was arrested Monday by township police after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at their Meadow Lands home.

El-Hajj Malik Turner, 22, was taken into custody just after noon at the home he shared with the alleged victim, Gracie Mitchell, 22, at 130 Barnickle St.

Mitchell called police after Turner allegedly punched her in the mouth during a domestic dispute. Mitchell told police she had been in the bathroom, and when she returned to the bedroom, Turner was on Facebook, she believed with another woman.

Mitchell said she slapped the cellphone from his hand, and about five minutes later, Turner jumped across the bed and started punching her in the face, police said. Mitchell told police he also put his hand around her throat and started to choke her, causing her vision to blur. He then pushed her to the floor, she said.

Mitchell’s bottom lip was bleeding and swollen, police said. She also complained that her right eye was sore and her vision was blurry.

Local police are familiar with Turner, who was the victim of a July 30 shooting outside a home at 630 Fayette St. in Washington’s West End. Turner, who was shot in the right hand, did not want to press charges against his alleged assailant.

In November 2012, Turner pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for shooting another man the previous December at an East Washington basketball court. He was sentenced to 3 ½ to 8 years in prison.

Turner was arraigned Monday before District Judge David Mark on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Police said he also is being held on a state parole violation stemming from the East Washington shooting.
