CHEYNEY (AP) – Historically black Cheyney University is trying to recover from a steep drop in enrollment in recent years.

University spokeswoman Gwen Owens says the school is trying to increase its academic offerings and adding high-demand programs. The school is trying to offer more online programs and to make itself more accessible to junior college transfers.

Cheyney was founded in 1837 making it the oldest historically black institution of higher learning in the country.
