SELTZER (AP) – An unemployed attorney has been jailed on charges that he robbed an eastern Pennsylvania bank.

WNEP-TV reports 57-year-old Steven Cormier is in the Schuylkill (SKOOL’-kil) County jail unable to post $100,000 bond.

State police say he robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in the Fairlane Village Mall near Pottsville on Tuesday. They say they found him in a car nearby with $15,000 minutes later.

Cary Sinclair, the attorney’s mother, tells the station that he fell on hard times earlier this year and lost his job. She says he was taking care of her, because she’s disabled, but is “flabbergasted” that he’d get so financially desperate that he’d rob a bank.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for him.

But WNEP report that Cormier said at his arraignment that he doesn’t plan to represent himself.
