WAYNESBURG – What began as an important way for students in Central Greene School District to receive scholarship opportunities is now turning into a highly supported community event.

Central Greene Scholarship Trust’s third annual Trivia Contest went so well this past weekend another contest is already being scheduled for next year.

“With the success of the event, the trust will be able to again offer four scholarships to this year’s senior class,” head organizer Michael Camilli said.

Through the contest and community support, the trust program has given more than $10,000 to local charities and student scholarships, Camilli said. Because of recent success, the trust is now looking to branch out into other school districts within the upcoming year to help more students.

“We hope to expand our scholarship awards to all the school districts in Greene County,” Camilli said.

The trust hopes its continuous growth of sponsors and also the larger numbers of participating teams in their annual trivia contests will help with the expansion.

The first place winner of this year’s trivia contest Saturday at Waynesburg Central High School was the team named “Vandelay Industries.” The group won $1,000 and donated it to Waynesburg-based charity 2nd Sam 9.

Second place winner was “Faust and Friends,” which won $500 and donated it to Bowlby Public Library.

Third place winner was “Books and More,” which gave its $250 donation to Flenniken Memorial Library.

Next year’s trivia contest is scheduled for Oct. 8, 2016.
