Harvest Festival raises $10,000 for historical society
Slated as Greene County Historical Society’s largest fundraiser, the Harvest Festival fulfilled its mission this past weekend even with the chilly October weather.
“I think it went very well,” said Alexandra Johnson, administrative assistant and co-chairwoman of the Harvest Festival committee.
This year’s festival showcased 41 vendors. Johnson attributes this spike in participants to a change in schedule. Being held on the third weekend of October, the festival did not interfere with other local events, such as Fort Ligonier Festival.
The festival showcased homemade, handcrafted and demonstration booths from the assortment of vendors.
Many re-enactors also came to the event to perform and camp out for the weekend to teach and show festivalgoers what life used to be like.
Johnson also said she heard many vendors were already looking forward to next year.
“The only complaint I heard from vendors and the people was that it was cold,” Johnson said. “And we can’t control that. With the weather, you get what you get.”
Between 1,200 and 1,400 people attended the two-day festival. Johnson said they raised about $10,000 for the museum and historical society.
“That’s a very good number,” Johnson said. “I feel like the public had fun even though they had to be all bundled up.”
