Central Greene adds athletic scholarship
The Timothy and Homer Shaffer Scholarship Fund for Central Greene School District was approved Tuesday night at a school board meeting.
The scholarship is in memory of Timothy Shaffer, who died in May 2011, and his father, Homer Shaffer. The scholarship is funded by the Shaffer family and will be awarded to students who participate in baseball, basketball or pole vault.
“We still need to figure out the criteria for the scholarship,” Superintendent Brian Uplinger said.
The school also plans on placing a plaque in the high school for Timothy Shaffer, who attended Waynesburg Central High School in the 1970s.
During the meeting, the board also approved for elevator systems to be inspected yearly. There are three elevators in the district. The cost for each inspection is $698.
Elsewhere, The Garland Co. was contracted to fix the roof of the high school academic wing.
“They come highly recommended,” board member John Jacobs said.
