The hearing for the Canonsburg man accused of stabbing an acquaintance with a sword earlier this month was continued Wednesday because the alleged victim did not appear for the proceeding.

Daniel W. Buretz, 55, of 14 E. Water St., is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment for allegedly stabbing 47-year-old John Bell in the back during an Oct. 5 argument at Buretz’ apartment.

Bell reportedly has no permanent address and it was not clear if he had received the subpoena. The hearing before District Judge David Mark was continued until Nov. 4. Mark adjusted Buretz’ bond from $50,000 cash to a $50,000 unsecured bond. When he is released from Washington County jail, Buretz is to have no contact with Bell and not to drink any alcohol.
