Coder tops commission spending

WAYNESBURG – The four candidates for Greene County Commissioner together spent under $25,000 during the last four months of their campaigns.

The top spender during the reporting period from June 8 to Oct. 19, was Democratic candidate Dave Coder, who spent slightly more than $10,000.

Spending by the three other candidates, Democrat incumbent Blair Zimmerman, Republican incumbent Archie Trader and Republican newcomer Keith McClure, fell within the $4,000 to $5,000 range.

Candidates were required to file their financial reports for the latest reporting period with the county elections office by Friday

Coder’s campaign committee reported starting the latest financial reporting period with a balance of $4,269.51. It raised $16,900 during the latest period and spent $10,109.68. The campaign was left with a balance of $11,059.83.

Among major contributors, Coder received $2,500 from the United Mine Workers of America and $2,000 each from Gloria Bishop of Wexford and John Brodak of Carmichaels.

He received $1,000 contributions from the Committee to Elect Tim Solobay, Morris Harper of Correctional Telecare Solutions, Stephen Magley of the law firm O’Malley and Magley, John Garlow of Ford Business Machines and David Widmer of Widmer Engineering.

In addition to signs, printing and advertising, Coder listed as expenditures cellphone expenses, fuel and supplies.

Trader’s campaign committee reported starting the period with a $250.34 balance. It raised $10,800 during the reporting period and spent $5,258.54. Its end balance was $5,791.81.

Trader received 15 contributions of $500 or less. His major contributors included the Greene County Republican Committee, $2,000; James and Lisa Jones of Carmichaels, $3,500; and David and Linda Wedmer of Rochester, $1,000.

Trader listed as expenditures for a telephone campaign, helium, advertising and a donation for a 4-H hog.

Zimmerman’s committee reported no money carried over from the previous reporting period. The campaign raised $3,650 and spent the same amount.

Zimmerman received a $1,000 donation from the United Mine Workers of America and 12 donations of $500 or less. He spent the money primarily on signs and advertising.

McClure’s committee started the reporting period with $617.28. It raised $3,300 and spent $3,892.71. The campaign was left with a balance of $24.57.

McClure received two contributions, totaling $3,000 from the Greene County Republican Committee. He received three contributions of $100. McClure spent most of the money on signs and advertising.
