Supreme Court candidates sink millions into TV air time
HARRISBURG (AP) – A new analysis shows the Democrat candidates for Pennsylvania Supreme Court have aired far more campaign ads on broadcast TV than their Republican competitors.
The candidates spent roughly $5 million on air time through Monday, according to the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity, which analyzed political advertising data from Kantar Media/CMAG, a media tracking firm, and released the results Thursday.
It says outside groups spent about $1.5 million to influence the race.
The analysis shows Kevin Dougherty, a Philadelphia judge, spent the most – nearly $2 million for about 3,700 airings of his spots. In second place, fellow Democrat David Wecht, a Superior Court judge, spent more than $1 million for about 2,300 airings.
The biggest Republican spender, Adams County Judge Mike George, paid about $250,000 for about 1,000 airings.
