The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce has begun planning the 2015 Downtown Waynesburg Christmas Parade, which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The execution of the parade is underwritten by the FirstEnergy Foundation.

More than 200 applications were mailed to schools, churches, civic organizations and other interested parties throughout the county.

All units must be registered by Nov. 20 and pay a $10 entry fee to participate. Late entries will be accepted through Nov. 25 for a $20 fee. No entries will be accepted after Nov. 25. A limited number of scholarships are available for those groups having financial need.

Miss Rain Day 2015, Claire Kreider, and the chamber’s 2015 Distinguished Service Award winners, Judge William R. Nalitz, the family of the late Donald K. Lindsay and the Waynesburg Moose Lodge and Family Center, will lead the parade down High Street as grand marshals.

The parade has no central theme, but all entries are asked to portray the true Christmas spirit. Float judging will take place prior to the start of the parade.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three floats. All floats and other entries are reminded that no live Santa is permitted on any unit in the parade. That is because Santa is the guest of honor at the parade’s conclusion..

WCYJ Television from Waynesburg University will be videotaping the parade for a later broadcast. WCYJ is a student operated television station under the direction of Bill Molzon.

Anyone wishing to participate that did not receive an application is asked to download the parade application by visiting the chamber website at www.waynesburgchamber.com. For more information, call 724-627-5926.
