Traffic approaches a McGuffey school bus that was involved in an accident Tuesday morning.

A McGuffey school bus was involved in an accident about 7 a.m. Tuesday on Route 18 in South Franklin Township, resulting in one student being taken to Washington Hospital.

According to state police, a McGuffey School District bus driven by Ronald A. Wilkinson, 69, of Washington, stopped at Bethel Church Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Park Avenue before it was clear to do so. A truck traveling on Park, driven by Joseph K. Hopkins, 34, of Washington, hit the door of the bus, which was carrying five students.

A 13-year-old female student, who state police did not identify, was taken to the hospital by ambulance as a precaution due to neck pain. Hopkins and his passenger, Manuel Gomez Jr., 45, of Washington, were both taken to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries.

School district officials went the scene. Route 18 was closed for a short time.

McGuffey School District released a statement that district protocols were followed. Wilkinson will be cited for making an improper left turn, state police said.
