Central Greene kindergartener left at wrong bus stop
WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School District has taken action against a bus driver who left a 5-year-old girl at the wrong designated drop off spot after the first day of school Aug 24.
Superintendent Brian Uplinger said after investigating the situation, the district found the bus driver left the girl at a designated stop on the Pennsylvania side of the state line in Blacksville where parents of other Central Greene children were present. However, it was not the correct stop for the young girl.
He did not identify the bus driver, but said no action would be taken against the contracted bus company, Fox School Bus Service. The school bus service owner could not be reached for comment.
“We do not permit students from kindergarten or first grade off of the bus unless a parent is present,” Uplinger said.
The district is now trying to create a process to ensure this kind of situation never happens again by adding another precautionary step on top of the current informational wrist bands that every kindergartener wears, he said. Parents will now be asked to write the stop that the child should be dropped off at, including an emergency phone number to contact on the child’s backpack.
“This is for when a student may be too afraid to talk to the bus driver,” Uplinger said.
