County looking to replace bridge over Canonsburg Lake

1 min read

The Washington County commissioners on Thursday approved a $559,167 contract with SAI Consulting Engineers, Pittsburgh, for the engineering and design of the McDowell Lane bridge over Canonsburg Lake in North Strabane Township.

Eighty percent of the cost will be paid by state taxpayers and 20 percent will come from the Washington County liquid fuels allocation.

Also at the request of the Washington County Planning Commission, the board approved a $610,000 reimbursement agreement with the state Department of Transportation for the project, which represents $488,000 in federal tax dollars allocated to the state and $122,000 from the county’s liquid fuels funds.

The project is now in the preliminary stages, so Lisa Cessna, executive director of the planning commission said work is not likely to begin until late 2016 or 2017.
