LSA grant applications due Oct. 1
The Washington County Redevelopment Authority will be accepting requests to fund projects from the Local Share Account of gambling revenue from The Meadows Casino until 5 p.m. Oct. 1.
Communities and nongovernmental organizations must submit a single hard copy of the application by the deadline to the redevelopment authority, which administers the program on behalf of the county, in Suite 603, Courthouse Square office building.
On Thursday, Laura Hough, West Pike Run Township supervisor, and Connie Palfrey, a member of the township water authority, told the commissioners their community will be applying for local share funds for a major water line proposed to serve approximately 175 homes. They tested 13 wells and cisterns in the area and a spring along Spring Road and Woodland Road and found both coliform bacteria and the E. coli species that is found in the intestinal tract of humans and warm-blooded animals. Residents have been purchasing water, but the community has no fire hydrants.
Commission Chairman Larry Maggi noted the commissioners appoint members of the panel that conducts public meetings on the requests, and that when the commissioners adopt a list of projects, they must forward it to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for final approval.
Those who would like more information about the local share process can contact the redevelopment authority at 724-228-6875.
