9/11 service planned
The South Strabane Township police and fire departments are hosting the annual 9/11 remembrance service at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 11 at the 9/11 Memorial in the parking lot of Washington Mall.
Police Chief Don Zofchak said the time of the service marks when the first plane hit the first tower at the World Trade Center.
“We feel a responsibility to keeping the memory alive and to remind people to remain vigilant so it doesn’t happen again,” Zofchak said. “I think the moment the first tower was hit is one of those moments that you know exactly where you were when it happened.”
Roger Waters, retired state police captain from Troop B in Washington, will be the speaker. He was in charge of the troop at the time of the attack.
He said they will be recognizing not only the people who perished during the attack but as well as local police, firefighters, military and emergency medical personnel who have passed away in recent years.
