WHITAKER (AP) – A dump truck driver was cited for rear-ending a Pittsburgh-area transit bus near Kennywood Park, injuring the bus driver and 11 passengers.

Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Jim Ritchie said William Lewis of Sid Mendlowitz Trucking was cited for following too closely, careless driving and having an expired registration. A man who answered the Glassport trucking firm’s phone refused to comment on the citations.

Ritchie said 17 passengers were on the bus when it was hit in Whitaker Borough near the Rankin Bridge at about 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Those injured were complaining of whiplash or similar injuries.

Ritchie said, “There were no major injuries, so that’s a good thing.”

Whitaker is about 5 miles east of Pittsburgh, along the Monongahela River.
