Mike Kovak, center, discusses all things running with Fleet Feet Sports Pittsburgh owner Bob Shooer and Karen Harr, the store's director of training programs and running groups. Shooer and Harr were guests on the Mike'd Up with Mike Kovak podcast.

The latest O-R Challenge isn’t a single-day task. It’s a 10-week commitment.

Assistant night editor Mike Kovak joined forces with Fleet Feet Sports, a specialty running store just off Route 19 at 1751 N. Highland Rd., Upper St. Clair Township. Kovak is three weeks into training for the EQT Pittsburgh 10-miler, a road race on Oct. 25. The course takes participants from a starting location in Station Square through the West End, North Side, Strip District and finishing, finally, in Downtown.

Fleet Feet Sports designed 10-week training programs for runners who simply want to finish and for those planning to race. Kovak is participating in Fleet Feet’s Train to Run program, which includes a gradual increase in mileage, weekly Sunday long runs and cross-training days.

In the latest episode of the Mike’d Up With Mike Kovak podcast, Fleet Feet owner Bob Shooer and Karen Harr, director of training programs and running groups, stopped by the Observer-Reporter to talk about the store’s mission and goals, training programs, ways to stay healthy and Kovak’s training.

It’s an informative session for those looking to start walking or running, hoping to overcome injuries and improving overall health.
