Conference examines importance of water

2 min read

Registration is open now for Just Around the River’s Bend, a one-day conference presented by the Northern Appalachian Network.

Set for Sept. 25 in the Convocation Center at California University of Pennsylvania, the conference focuses on water and its past, present and future impact on the region.

Dr. David Argent and Dr. William Kimmel will present the keynote address, “What Fish Have to Tell Us About Appalachia.” Argent is a faculty member in Cal U.’s department of Biological and Environmental Sciences; he and Kimmel, a retired Cal U. professor, co-authored a number of research papers on the region’s fisheries.

The Northern Appalachian Network is a multidisciplinary network of scholars, artists and residents of the region that includes communities across Pennsylvania, southern New York, northern West Virginia, northwestern Maryland and northeastern Ohio.

NAN seeks to highlight the accomplishments and culture of the region, as well as the challenges facing this often neglected part of Appalachia. Resources for the network are housed on California University’s website, www.calu.edu.

The public is welcome to attend the conference. Registration is required. Space is limited, so participants are urged to register early.

Registration fee is $45 for nonstudents; lunch is included. Exhibitors pay $20, also with lunch. There is no cost for students, who may purchase a $5 lunch ticket if they wish.

Visitor parking is available in the Vulcan Garage, off Third Street near the campus entrance.

For online conference registration, visit the Cal U. website, www.calu.edu. Exhibitors and anyone with questions about NAN may contact Dr. Pamela Twiss via email at twiss@calu.edu.
