Beaver County man wanted in Quicksilver theft
McDonald police obtained an arrest warrant for a Beaver County man accused of stealing money from a Robinson Township golf club last month and then losing his sneaker as he ran from the pro shop to his car.
Anthony Michael Checca, 29, whose last known address was in Industry, was charged with theft and disorderly conduct after he allegedly stole about $400 from Quicksilver Golf Club Aug. 17.
Officer Bradley Resnik, who filed the charges against Checca, said the 29-year-old also is wanted on warrants obtained by several departments in Allegheny and Beaver counties. Court records show he is wanted by police in Oakdale and Sewickley boroughs and Moon, North Fayette and Robinson townships in Allegheny County and Industry in Beaver.
Most of the charges he faces are access device and theft-related but Oakdale police filed charges in connection with an Aug. 27 chase. He is also wanted by state police at the Milton barracks, north of Harrisburg, on theft and drunken driving charges stemming from an incident in June in Gregg Township, Union County.
Resnik said Checca’s fiancée, Stephanie Zilka, was arraigned Tuesday on charges filed by police in Moon, North Fayette and Robinson townships, stemming from incidents in which she was reportedly his co-conspirator. The 21-year-old Pittsburgh woman is in Allegheny County jail on $15,000 bond.
“He and his fiancée have done a good job terrorizing the area,” Resnik said Wednesday. “A lot of agencies are looking for him.”
“In just the past two months, the two have been involved in multiple crimes involving thefts and access device fraud,” he added. “We have received information that they have a heroin addiction.”
McDonald police learned of Checca’s identity after a Moon officer saw a surveillance photo of him running from the golf club at 200 Quicksilver Road.
A man, eventually identified as Checca, approached the groundskeeper and asked if singles were allowed to play on the course and asked for the location of the pro shop. He reportedly told a cashier at the pro shop he was waiting for his father to finish a round of golf. The cashier told police he turned his back to dump out coffee when Checca reportedly jumped over the counter and grabbed a stack of $1 bills. Checca then ran up the stairs and out the front door. He lost his right shoe next to where he parked his car in the lot.
Resnik said different police agencies were exchanging information about Checca using the SPIN network, a law enforcement database. Checca, who was driving a black, compact car, at the time of the Quicksilver theft, is now believed to be driving a beige minivan, Resnik said. He is also believed to be in the Pittsburgh or Washington areas.
Anyone who sees Checca or knows his whereabouts should call 911, Resnik said.
