Capitol gathering urges courts against punishing Kane
HARRISBURG (AP) – A couple dozen supporters of Attorney General Kathleen Kane are urging Pennsylvania’s high court justices not to suspend her law license.
The gathering Thursday in the state Capitol follows moves by the state Supreme Court to advance a disciplinary process that could result in the suspension of Kane’s license.
Supporters said Kane has a constitutional right to the presumption of innocence and shouldn’t be punished while she’s contesting charges that include perjury.
Court officials said suspending Kane’s license wouldn’t strip of her of the office. Senate lawyers said a two-thirds majority vote in the chamber could effectively remove her.
Gene Stilp, an activist who filed a complaint about Kane to the agency that investigates lawyer misconduct, says Kane’s constitutional rights shouldn’t be confused with her status as a lawyer.
