Poor performance puts substitute teacher contractor in limbo

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A contractor recently hired to provide Philadelphia public schools with substitute teachers has been issued a warning that its current performance is unacceptable.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Source4Teachers promised to fill 75 percent of vacancies on the first day of school, but district officials say the firm has done no better than about 15 percent so far.

Superintendent William Hite Jr. says “continued poor performance” will put the partnership in jeopardy, but some education leaders say that’s not enough.

Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Jerry Jordan called for the School Reform Commission to cancel its $34 million contract with the firm outright.

Jordan called Source4Teachers “an even worse failure than we imagined.”
