WAYNESBURG – A Nemacolin man who pleaded guilty earlier this year to having sex with a teenage girl who was five years younger than him was sentenced to prison Monday.

Fred A. Lowry, 21, of 100 Bliss Ave., was sentenced by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to 30 to 60 months in prison for the ongoing sexual relationship between him and a 15-year-old girl from September 2013 until March 2014.

Cumberland Township police arrested Lowry on Jan. 10 and charged him with numerous counts of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault of a minor, indecent assault of a minor, statutory sex assault and corruption of a minor.

Lowry pleaded guilty May 23 to 10 counts each of felony statutory sex assault and 10 misdemeanor charges of corruption of a minor. Prosecutors withdrew the remaining charges as part of the plea deal.

Lowry can be released after 22 ½ months and is being given credit for the more than eight months served in Greene County jail while awaiting for his case to be adjudicated. He must register on the state police’s Megan’s Law website as a nonviolent offender for 15 years.

Cumberland Township police said Lowry had sexual intercourse with the girl 20 to 30 times at her home with the intention of getting her pregnant “because he wanted her to be emancipated so the two of them could run away together.”

Lowry apologized to the court and public for the crime.

“I would like to apologize to everybody,” Lowry said. “I know what I did was wrong. I’m sorry for causing such a great ordeal.”

Toothman then asked if Lowry had a message to the victim, who was not in the courthouse during the sentencing.

“If I could take it all back, I would,” Lowry responded.

In addition to jail time, Tootman also ordered him to pay $1,750 in fines.

Lowry will now be transferred to SCI-Pittsburgh for classification.
