Monongahela man accused of giving girl, 14, drug in a park

MONONGAHELA – A Monongahela man is accused of giving a 14-year-old girl a prescription anxiety treatment drug at a local playground last week.

Monongahela police Monday arrested Michael A. Amati, 23, of 507 Jackson St., on charges of child endangerment and corruption of a minor over accusation he gave the girl a line of a crushed Xanax pill to snort at Mounds Park about 6 p.m. Sept. 15, court records show.

The girl’s mother brought her to the city police station two days later to report the incident, police stated in the affidavit supporting the charges.

The girl also showed police text messages on her phone alleging Amati also stated he could supply her with marijuana and alcohol if she wanted them, the record shows.

Amati is in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
