Crews start landslide repair work at Southpointe

Repair work started Wednesday on a landslide along Southpointe Boulevard, about a quarter-mile north of Technology Drive South, in Southpointe, Cecil Township officials said. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained as crews make repairs through the second week of October, according to a release.
“Traffic control is in place. No police or anyone will be on scene as there are temporary pavement and traffic construction signs, so it’s self-controlled. We’re just slightly decreasing the width of the lanes,” said township manager Don Gennuso.
The sidewalk on the east side of Southpointe Boulevard, however, will remain closed for pedestrian safety while repairs are made.
The contracts for work were awarded to Bioni Drilling, $100,000; Joe Stewart Contracting, $36,000; and Beth’s Barricades, $9,000.
The repair and reconstruction work will have crews installing steel beams and concrete panels to stabilize the embankment.
