The West Finley Volunteer Fire Company station on Majorsville Road has a new truck parked in one of the bays that it never had before – a light rescue truck.

The 2015 Ford F-550 with a 10-foot body equipped with the jaws of life, air bags and other vehicle rescue equipment was delivered Friday.

Fire Chief Steve Emery said the truck is filling a need in the department.

“Over the last few years, we have been responding to many more vehicle crashes,” Emery said. “In the last year, we have responded to almost 50 crashes.”

“With the oil wells and being so close to the MarkWest facility in West Virginia, we have seen much more traffic,” he added. “We have had the jaws of life on our pumper for the last few years, so having a rescue truck will also free up space on the engine.”

Emery said the truck can also be taken off-road if there is a crash involving an all-terrain or other type of vehicle.

Emery said the truck was outfitted based on the department’s specifications. The $135,000 purchase price is being financed over eight years, using money raised in department fundraisers and donations from residents and businesses, as well as the annual allocations from East Finley and West Finley townships. Emery said Claysville, Morris Township and West Finley fire departments all receive an allocation from East Finley since the three share coverage of that township.
