Point Park University reaches deal with adjunct professors
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Point Park University in Pittsburgh has reached a tentative agreement on its first contract with part-time, or adjunct, professors.
The private school and the United Steelworkers announced the deal Wednesday. It must still be ratified by more than 300 part-time professors and school officials.
Point Park’s adjunct professors voted to unionize in June 2014 and began negotiating their first contract in December.
Terms of the deal weren’t released, but both sides say it will include significant pay increases and job security for the part-timers.
University president Paul Hennigan says the school “maintains great respect for its part-time faculty.” Steelworkers international president Leo Gerard says the deal “built a more secure future for the instructors, their students and the university as a whole.”
