The Greene County commissioners last week gave a proclamation to organizers of the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wana B Park in Carmichaels.

The walk is designed to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s, the incurable and fatal brain disease that causes memory loss, disorientation and difficulties with judgment and speaking.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the proclamation, but early detection and diagnosis of those affected by Alzheimer’s can help them access treatment medications, enroll in critical research trials and receive help and support from area agencies.

“We are proud to volunteer our time for this walk,” event chairwoman Ashley Shuckhart said.

“Each one of us is personally affected by this with loved ones.”
