6-year-old struck, killed by drunk driver, police say

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A 6-year-old girl is dead after allegedly being struck by a vehicle driven by a Pittsburgh-area man who is facing homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence charges.

The incident happened Saturday night in Shaler, when police say 20-year-old Travis Richard Grayson came around a bend, lost control of his vehicle and struck the girl and her mother in a driveway.

The girl died several hours later at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Grayson is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence and other counts.

According to the criminal complaint, he told police he had had 10 beers and smoked marijuana before the crash and “was driving like a stupid idiot.”

Grayson was in custody and court records didn’t list a lawyer.
