Police beat Sept. 29

Mischief charge: Wayne E. Whipkey, 45, of 449 Quiet Dell Road, Aleppo, was charged with criminal mischief after state police said he punched and kicked a vehicle near his home Aug. 2, causing $3,452 worth of damage.

Backhoe damaged: A backhoe owned by the state Department of Transportation was vandalized Sept. 19 while parked at a work site along state Route 1023 in Cumberland Township, state police said.

Theft: Waynesburg police charged Jolene L. Thomas, 34, of 235 Titus St., Bobtown, with retail theft, receiving stolen property resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and trespassing Sept. 18 after officers said she entered Family Dollar at 187 W. High St. and took several items. Police said she struggled with officers and began screaming while being put in handcuffs.
