1 min read

BALTIMORE – Baltimore police say an officer shot a man in the leg after he repeatedly refused to show his hands.

Spokesman T.J. Smith said the shooting occurred about 7:10 p.m. Monday in the southwestern part of the city. He said the officer was on his way to a community meeting when he stopped at an intersection to speak to the 40-year-old man.

Smith said the man refused repeated commands to take his hands out of his pockets. He said the officer shot the man in the leg, then immediately applied a tourniquet to it and ensured that he was brought to a hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman said the man is in serious condition.

No charges have been filed against the man and his identity has not been released.
