Cumberland woman injured in crash
KHEDIVE – A Cumberland Township woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Route 21 at Crees Road in Khedive that closed the highway for more than four hours.
Marion Rich, 87, was taken by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., after the crash shortly before 9 a.m., Cumberland Township police Chief Craig Miller said. Rich was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Miller said Rich was pulling out of her driveway at 1603 E. Roy Furman Highway to head east on Route 21 when her car was hit in the driver’s side rear door by a pickup truck traveling west on the road.
The driver of the pickup, Chad Kittle, 21, of Nemacolin, was not injured.
Rich’s car came to rest on the south side of Route 21. Kittle’s truck came to a stop after running over a bank on the south side of the highway.
The crash remains under investigation, Miller said, and a state police accident reconstruction specialist was called to assist with the investigation.
Route 21 was closed between Havershill Road and South Branch Muddy Creek Road until about 1 p.m. while police conducted their investigation.
Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene. Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company was called to help provide traffic control.
