Meeting roundup
Trinity Area School Board
Date: March 17
Action: The school district will receive a five-year, $7,084 grant from the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association to support the district’s efforts to encourage students to drink 8-ounce bottled milk available on the main meal line and a la carte. The money will be used to purchase new milk cooler equipment and other pre-approved investments. According to the MDA, milk consumption among children is 120 million pounds per year less than it was 10 years ago, and 77 percent of children ages 9-19 do not meet the recommended daily intake of three servings a day.
A school milk pilot test conducted by the National Dairy Council and supported by the School Nutrition Association showed that when milk is served in plastic bottles, in multiple flavors, cold and attractively presented, children will drink more milk, more often.
Directors approved the purchase of an electric scissor lift and trailer at a cost not to exceed $19,250.
The board hired Lori Riffle as a secretary. It is a 10-month position.
