WAYNESBURG – Local high school students will have the opportunity to pick up new dance moves before prom this year through a swing dancing class at Waynesburg University.

The college’s West Coast Swing Club, known as “Sting Swing” on campus, will host dance lessons for high school students from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the university’ auxiliary gym.

“Our event, ‘Swing Into Prom,’ is a great way for the Sting Swing members to share our love of dance with Greene and Washington counties and provide high school students with a usable skill for prom and beyond,” Faith Musko, swing instructor for the university, said in a news release.

During the three-hour class, Musko and her college students will teach basic dance techniques that can be applied to any type of music.

“West Coast Swing can be danced to nearly every genre of music heard on the radio,” Musko said in a statement.

Admission, which is open to all high school students, is $10 per person or $15 for two. No previous dance experience is necessary, but reservations are encouraged. To register, contact Musko at fmusko@waynesburg.edu or 724-852-7716. Parents or guardians will need to register for any students younger than 18.
