Atlasburg man faces kidnap charge
An Atlasburg man was in a Moundsville, W.Va., jail Sunday night on charges of malicious wounding and kidnapping, according to a West Virginia newspaper.
The Wheeling Intelligencer reported Sunday that Thomas Michael Walters, 51, was arrested by Wheeling police following an alleged incident early Saturday.
Officers responded to a call about a woman being on Route 2 in the Warwood section of Wheeling at 12:21 a.m. She told them she had exited a moving vehicle.
She said she asked Walters for a ride in Wellsburg, W.Va., with the intent of going to a boyfriend’s residence, but said Walters drove past that destination en route to Wheeling.
The police report did not identify the woman.
She said she pleaded with him to let her go, but he wouldn’t, and he then punched her in the head and face before she leaped out, according to police.
The woman was treated for injuries.
Walters was placed in Northern Regional jail at 1:50 a.m. Saturday on $100,000 bail.
