State police are looking for a man who robbed a Canton Township convenience store early Monday.

The robber walked into Circle K, 880 Henderson Ave., just before 4:15 a.m. and handed a clerk a note demanding money. The clerk complied, handing over cash. Police said no weapon was seen during the robbery.

The robber then fled in an older blue or green Ford LTD or Mercury Marquis-style car.

A vehicle matching the description was later stopped in Washington’s West End, but it was determined it was not related to the robbery.

The robber is black, about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a stocky build. He wore a gray, hooded jacket or sweatshirt, dark gray shirt and black or dark pants with tan boots or shoes.

Police have not determined if the Circle K robbery has any connection with last week’s holdup at the Valero, 98 Murtland Ave., Washington. City police were called to the store just after 4 a.m. March 29 after it was held up by a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt backward with the hood covering his face. City police said the robber cut holes in the hood so he could see. The clerk told police the robber went behind the counter and stuck something in his back, demanding money.

When the robber left the store and was going through the parking lot, he pulled down the hood. The clerk told police the robber was either bald or had close-shaven hair.

City police Chief Bob Wilson said the investigation is continuing.

Police had been called to the same store Sunday afternoon for a theft report. Raymond Joseph Lindquist, 51, whose last known address was Pike Street, Houston, was taken into custody on a charge of misdemeanor retail theft for allegedly stealing items from the store and fleeing.

Police said they were able to identify him after running a check on an Access card he used to make a purchase and by checking the license plate on his vehicle. Lindquist was arraigned Monday morning before District Judge Gary Havelka and released.

Anyone with information on Monday’s robbery is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
