Burgettstown bank scene of robbery
Several law enforcement agencies were investigating a robbery at a bank in Burgettstown Tuesday evening.
McDonald police Chief Mark Dorsey said a robber entered the PNC Bank branch at 1803 Main St. about 2 p.m. and threatened to “blow up the place.”
Dorsey said the man, whom bank employees described as “visibly nervous,” didn’t show a weapon. He took more than $1,000. No injuries were reported.
A police advisory was issued for a suspect – a white man between 25 and 30 with a lean build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a blue Nike logo, gray sweatpants and brown boots.
“We are chasing a few leads as we speak,” Dorsey said Tuesday evening.
Police believe he drove a blue or teal four-door Saturn sedan.
Dorsey said the suspect headed north on North Main Street after leaving the bank.
“We were able to identify a blonde female in the back seat,” Dorsey said.
Police were reviewing surveillance footage from the bank and video from surveillance cameras at a nearby house and a business.
The branch was temporarily closed mid-afternoon while local police, FBI agents and troopers from the state police forensics unit worked.
Tom Repole was standing in front of his house across the street bantering with passersbys he recognized, which was most of them.
A lifelong resident and member of the local school board for 24 years, Repole said the robbery is atypical in the small, close-knit borough.
“This is a fluke,” he said. “Nothing ever goes on here.”
