CECIL – Cecil Township supervisors unanimously awarded a $1.1 million contract Monday to Youngblood Paving to tackle paving on Coleman Road.

“Coleman has had a number of problems we’ve been fixing over the years, like landslides, so those things had to be taken care of before undertaking this paving project, which is putting over six inches of bituminous material on top. It’s a heavy-duty job,” said township engineer Dan Deiseroth.

Township manager Don Gennuso said discussions with Bedner’s Farm and Greenhouse, at 315 Coleman Road, had to take place before proceeding with a contract.

“We were having conversations with the Bedner’s on how their trucks could be taking a different route around to abate some of the heavy weight on the road. So when they agreed to have an alternate route, we proceeded on paving because that will ease up the stress on the road after and make road work easier,” Gennuso said. There is no clear timetable for the project.

Youngblood was also awarded two separate contracts worth a combined $367,000 for regular paving and maintenance for 2016.

In other business, supervisors approved a public hearing on a portion of Grudevich Road severed by the construction of Interstate 79 years ago for 6:30 p.m. May 2 before the regular supervisors’ meeting.

Resident Dennis Sluciak asked that inconsistencies in the deed to his property as a result of the highway construction be addressed.
