Ex-lightweight champ Spadafora charged with assaulting woman
CRAFTON, Pa. (AP) — Former International Boxing Federation lightweight champ Paul Spadafora has been charged with throwing a 63-year-old woman to the ground in the parking lot outside a Pittsburgh-area bar.
Spadafora was charged Thursday with simple assault and harassment following the incident at the Redstone Tavern in Crafton on Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses tell police Spadafora appeared to be intoxicated when he started baiting other patrons — including the woman — challenging them to box him Wednesday afternoon. Spadafora allegedly grabbed the woman in a headlock then drank from her beer before she went outside to call 911.
That’s when police say Spadafora threw her to the ground before leaving.
Spadafora didn’t respond to a request for comment through his website.
He was paroled in April 2006 after 13 months’ incarceration for shooting his ex-girlfriend in October 2003.
