Canonsburg eyeing water overflow on West Pike Street
CANONSBURG – A switch in engineering firms in Canonsburg is holding up a $55,000 fix on water overflow near PNC Bank on West Pike Street. Interim borough manager Denise Lesnick said as the borough obtains records from former borough engineering firm KLH to give to newly-hired firm HMT, council will have to prioritize street projects.
Borough officials will first have to review road repairs and improvements needed in 2016, she said. The water issue won’t be adressed until officials know if there is money remaining in the road fund to pay for it.
“So we’ll be looking to July to start on it,” she said. “We might look to Local Share Account funds or Act 13 monies if its deemed allowed.”
The water overflow has been affecting businesses in the 100 block of West Pike as problems cropped up with storm water drains meant to carry overflow from gutter systems, according to Lesnick.
In other business at Monday’s regular council meeting, Mayor Dave Rhome asked borough zoning officials to write a letter of notice to businesses along Cavasina Drive – or “Hamburger Road,” as Rhome called it – for overflowing garbage containers that windy gusts are blowing into Chartiers Creek.
