South Main Street reopened after oil spill
South Main Street in Washington between Maiden and South streets was closed to traffic while workers cleaned up oil that leaked from a truck Tuesday afternoon. The street was reopened at 5:30 p.m since being closed at 1 p.m. Washington police Lt. Steve Robertson said the truck leaked oil on South Main, causing motorists to have a hard time stopping. No crashes were reported.
City fire and street departments and the state Department of Transportation were called to clean up the oil. The Washington County Hazardous Materials Team was also called. A small amount of oil also leaked on West Maiden Street in front of City Hall.
Joe DeFilippo, PennDOT acting foreman, said the truck blew a hydraulic line and an unknown amount of oil leaked from it. Crews put down anti-skid and absorbent material before sweeping it up.
The truck stopped and is being inspected by the city’s truck inspector. Robertson had no information on who owns the truck.
