A 25-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet during a road rage incident Thursday night near the Bavington exit on Route 22 east in Hanover Township, state police said.

Rachel Chiodo, of Follansbee, W.Va., suffered bruising on her ribs after being grazed by the bullet around 10 p.m. The bullet traveled through the vehicle and her seat after she and her passenger, Aaron Mossgrove, 33, also of Follansbee, were cut off by a red sport-utility vehicle driven by a heavyset white man with a beard. The bullet did not penetrate Chiodo’s skin, said Trooper Robin Mungo.

“She wasn’t taken to the hospital, wasn’t taken from the scene because the bullet never really went through. If anything further happened she would have taken herself to the hospital, but she was checked at the scene and had only suffered a minor injury,” Trooper Matt Jardine said.

According to police, the sport-utility vehicle driver reportedly tailed the vehicle in which Chiodo and Mossgrove were riding for several miles while changing speeds, lanes and repeatedly cut off the vehicle. As the victims’ vehicle was traveling in the left lane, the suspect pointed a handgun and fired into the vehicle while driving alongside it in the right lane.

The unidentified suspect could face attempted homicide charges, police said.
