Canton robbery suspect jailed
The Washington man suspected of robbing a Canton Township convenience store earlier this month was arrested Friday.
Donald Eugene Allen, 46, whose last known address was 360 E. Hallam Ave., was arraigned Friday afternoon before District Judge David Mark on charges of robbery and theft filed by state police in connection with the April 4 robbery of Circle K, 860 Henderson Ave.
Allen reportedly went into the store just after 4 a.m. and handed the clerk a note that read “Just give me $150 I am not playing.” The clerk opened the register and removed money from the drawer. Allen allegedly grabbed the money from the clerk’s hand and fled from the store. An audit of the cash drawer showed $105 was stolen from the register.
State police later received information from a source who indicated Allen admitted to the robbery and said he was going to do time. The informant was able to identify Allen from surveillance footage, indicating it was the same clothing he was wearing for a few days before the robbery.
Another source told Trooper Thomas Kress, who filed the charges, she loaned her car to Allen the day before the robbery and he did not return it until April 4. She also was able to identify Allen as the man in the surveillance footage. She told police he was wearing the same clothing as when he picked up her car.
Allen was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for an April 27 preliminary hearing before Mark.
