Dispute, chase led to arrest in Greene
An Indiana County man was arrested by state police Friday night after leading troopers and other officers on a chase north of Waynesburg after they were called to a reported domestic dispute.
When Charles Ronald Cramer, Jr., 59, of Indiana, was stopped by police off Route 19 north in Washington Township, troopers spotted an assault rifle and two loaded magazines in plain view in his pickup truck.
Police were called to the 100 block of Fairview Avenue, Franklin Township, for a report of the dispute. Cramer reportedly told a 51-year-old woman he was going to shoot her. Police said Cramer also asked the alleged victim “if she was ready to die tonight.” When she told him state police had been called, he reportedly stated “I have more bullets than they do.”
The alleged victim told police Cramer was kicking at her front door. She told troopers he was intoxicated and had weapons in his vehicle.
Cramer fled in his pickup truck. Waynesburg police Officer George Lewis spotted Cramer’s truck as it traveled north on Route 19, just north of Fairview. Lewis attempted a traffic stop, but Cramer failed to stop.
Multiple units joined the pursuit. Cramer pulled into the lot near the gasoline pumps at Ruff Creek Market on Route 19 in Washington Township. Police conducted a felony stop and took Cramer into custody without incident.
Police seized the AR-15 rifle. Cramer refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test.
Cramer was arraigned before District Judge Glenn Bates on charges of fleeing and eluding police, driving under the influence of alcohol, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and careless driving. He was placed in Greene County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before Bates.
